UDO's RBN-1-C is a Eurorack interface module for their powerfully expressive RBN-1 Performance Ribbon Controller, bringing live and loopable control optimized for performance to any Eurorack system. In a compact 6HP package, the RBN-1-C provides simple connection to the RBN-1 at the bottom of the panel. Switches at the top allow you to customize the behavior of your controller, with options for holding the most recent value and selection between absolute and relative control. The red rotary control lets you scale the volt-per-octave CV generated by the module, enabling dramatic CV depth and finely-tuned modulations alike.

At the bottom of the module, independent gate and CV outputs for both left and right hands allow you to use the controller duophonically, controlling multiple voices or parameters simultaneously. Adding even more depth of creative control, the RBN-1-C allows you to create looping modulations from your gestures on the RBN-1, with a trigger input for starting playback, allowing you to effortlessly create tempo-locked modulations. The RBN-1 from UDO is easily one of the most advanced ribbon controllers available, and the RBN-1-C dramatically expands those creative capabilities, inviting expressive control for Eurorack systems everywhere.

Scale Selector

Use the scale selector knob to
choose the octave range of the
ribbon controller. + values represent
a slide from left to right, and – values
represent a slide from right to left.

Two-Touch Control

The RBN-1-C supports two
simultaneous touch inputs from the
RBN-1. When a single finger touches
the ribbon, the left ( ) output is active.
If a second finger touches the ribbon
while the first remains in contact, the
right ( ) output is activated for the
second touch.

Outputs

GATE
Outputs 5V gate signal while finger is
in contact with ribbon. A solid red LED
indicates output is active.
CV
Outputs 1V/oct signal based on finger
position on ribbon. Use the Scale
Control above to choose the octave
range of the ribbon.

Absolute / Relative

ABSOLUTE
When ribbon is pressed, CV value
jumps to absolute value based on
position of finger (with the left-
most large marking being zero).
RELATIVE
When ribbon is pressed, CV value
starts at zero based on position
of finger.

Record and Loop

RECORD
Press the button once to arm the
recording. A slow flashing red LED
indicates recording is armed. Recording
begins when ribbon is pressed, and
stops when ribbon is released.
PLAYBACK
In HOLD ON mode playback will start
automatically, in HOLD OFF mode press
the button once to start playback.
Playback will loop continuously, to stop
and start playback press the button.
PLAYBACK (WITH TRIG INPUT)
When a trig input is detected, playback
will begin when a rising edge signal
is received and will restart at the next
rising edge signal. To stop playback
press the button once.
OVERWRITE
Press and hold the button for 0.5
seconds to arm recording again and
overwrite current recording.

RBN-1 Input

Connect your RBN-1 ribbon controller
here. A solid green LED in the loop
section indicates the RBN-1 is detected
and RBN-1-C is ready to use. A solid
red LED in the loop section indicates no
RBN-1 detected.

• Protected against output short circuit to ground (only one channel at a time)

Gate outputs

• 3.5mm TS jack sockets
• 0/5V logic level, active high
• Protected against output short to ground with 1k 250mW series resistors
• LED per channel, illuminated red when corresponding gate output active
